Sarah sat at her kitchen table, the letter from her late ex-husband clutched tightly in her hand. It had been a week since she received the unexpected news of his passing, and now, as she read his words, she felt a tumult of emotions swirling inside her.
“My dearest Sarah,” the letter began, written in her ex-husband’s familiar scrawl. “If you’re reading this, then I’m gone. I never got the chance to tell you the real reason behind my decision to leave you my estate.”
Sarah’s heart pounded in her chest as she read on, her eyes scanning the page for answers.
“I know I hurt you deeply when I cheated on you and married another woman,” the letter continued. “But what you don’t know is that I regretted it every single day. I never stopped loving you, Sarah. And when I heard about your daughter, I realized the enormity of my mistake.”
Tears welled up in Sarah’s eyes as she read her ex-husband’s words, her heart aching with a mix of pain and longing.
“I left you everything because I wanted to make things right,” the letter went on. “I wanted to give you and our daughter the life you deserved. Please, Sarah, use this money to take care of yourselves, to build a future filled with love and happiness.”
Sarah’s hands trembled as she reached the end of the letter, her mind reeling with the weight of his words. She had never expected such a gesture from him, especially after the pain he had caused her.
But now, as she sat alone in her kitchen, she realized that she had a decision to make. Should she honor his wishes and accept his gift, or should she let go of the past and move on with her life?
In the end, Sarah knew that she had to follow her heart. With a heavy sigh, she folded the letter and placed it back in its envelope, her mind made up.
She would use the money to build a better future for herself and her daughter, just as her ex-husband had intended. And in doing so, she would finally find the closure and peace she had been searching for all along.
